Strengthening Our Communities

As a community partner, Columbia Midstream works to strengthen the communities where our employees live and work. We strive to create a positive presence – enhancing the growth and vitality of each community that we serve.

Our Guiding Principles of Community Partnership Include:

Adhering to Only the Highest Standards for Safety
Our primary responsibility is to ensure public safety through responsible operations. From design to construction to maintenance, we adhere to stringent industry standards, research-based company policies and regulatory mandates. This commitment has resulted in one of the safest and most reliable energy transportation networks in the country. Our motto Safe by Choice, Not by Chance – drives our employees to prioritize safety above all else.

Serving as Stewards of the Environment
Columbia Midstream projects are designed and constructed to minimize land use and impact to natural resources. Before launching a project, we conduct extensive engineering, environmental and archaeological surveys of the project landscape to ensure that we avoid sensitive natural and cultural areas. We believe that conducting our operations in an environmentally sound manner is the right thing to do.

Maximizing Economic Development Opportunities
Each of our projects contributes to the job growth and economic benefits inherent to the development of the regional shale play. We try to maximize those benefits as much as we can – hiring local services and using local supplies when possible. We also work with local municipalities to ensure roadway infrastructure is left in equal or improved condition once pipelines are in service.

Giving Back to Local Organizations in Need
As a member of the local community for more than 100 years, Columbia Midstream is committed to partnering with organizations in need. We want to make long-term investments in our communities by supporting local non-profits and civic organizations, sponsoring community events, and volunteering. Columbia Midstream is always looking for ways to make a positive impact in the communities it serves.

Building Partnerships with Project Stakeholders
Building partnerships and establishing open lines of communication with landowners and local municipal leaders is a key component of our project execution. We pledge to communicate early, and to be transparent, fair and flexible in all of our interactions with these important stakeholders. A toll-free contact line has been established to field calls 24/7, and each project is staffed with communications liaisons dedicated to serving landowners and local municipal leaders.

These principles have been a priority to Columbia Midstream for more than 100 years, and we believe that staying true to them will allow us to continue strengthening communities into the next century and beyond.
